The story behind the song Where Eagles Dare:
A September 11th Song & Story Tribute to America...
an interview w KGO radio
WHERE EAGLES DARE
How does someone from NJ and someone from San Francisco write a song together when theyve never met?
After September 11th Americans looked to each other for support, our entire nation had a newfound sense of interconnectedness.
Where Eagles Dare is a story about the Re-Uniting of America.
On the eve of September 11th Eric Weiss wrote a lyrical poem that he felt compelled to share with his family and friends via email.
"Where Eagles Dare" is to remind everyone that beyond the smoky New York skyline proudly stood the Statue of Liberty carrying her torch
Even though Ken Kingsbury had never met Eric before, when he came across the lyrics via email he was so inspired by the words he created an equally inspired composition and the song "Where Eagles Dare" was born. Nearly a year later Ken contacted Eric and they submitted the song to a charity event dedicated to the memory of September 11th.
When I heard Where Eagles Dare for the first time I thought
Ken just sang an Anthem for America.
As horrific as the events of September 11th were, they have
galvanized a nations spirit like no other event in history. September 11th Re-United Americans like never before and proved We are Stronger Together than alone... Where Eagles Dare truly embodies the Spirit of America.
Where Eagles Dare
( Lyrics by W. Eric Weiss / Music by Ken Kingsbury )
A plane flew away before the dawns early light
Buildings falling down a world forgot to spin round
Blasting a hole in the heart of freedoms dream
As freedom screams
as freedom screams
Like the day the music died
The good old boys drank some more rye
As we cried in our hearts for Lennons sky
A sad world could only cry
Only where eagles dare shall eagles fly
We are stronger we are one
We will survive
Only where freedom dares shall the stars and stripes fly
We are stronger we are one
Freedom will survive
Imagine the children at play
Had no idea peace was attacked today
But still we dream a dream that will never die
As we still fly in Lennons sky
An eye for an eye only God knows why
Different faces and different names
But our childrens blood is still the same
Still our freedom flies
our freedom flies
Lady Liberty stood tall through it all
And passed the torch to the world today
The world shall answer the call
Freedom will not fall
Freedom will not fall
Only where eagles dare shall eagles fly
We are stronger we are one
We will survive
Only where freedom dares shall the stars and stripes fly
We are stronger we are one
Freedom will survive
God bless America
Our home sweet home
God bless the world
Our home sweet home
God bless the world
Our home sweet home

I think the song is great. I just listened to it again. Wow. You must be stoked! It was quite touching actually. Thanks for sharing it. Kristin B.
Eric, I am listening to your poem and it is incredible. What a great surprise. Why don't you come and visit? What a heart felt song, thank you for sharing this with me. Marhnelle H.
I like it a lot, enough to put in the play file. Yeah, it's a tear jerker. Had a thought, why not send it to Bill O'Reilly and see if he will play it on the 9/11 anniversary. It's the kind of song he would like.
George S.
Eric that is so Awesome! You should send it to every radio station across the country to play on the anniversary. I did pick up the Lennon reference as well as the Don McClanes American Pie Reference. I thought some of your references made it so much more substantial than if you were just marching around with a flag in your hand talking about freedom. It's so well written. Katherine H.
Eric this is so beautiful I cried and your sister cried when we heard it. I'm gonna contact everyone I can to get this song heard. Maybe Ken can sing it on Oprah? I let my friend Denise, the artist, listen to it and
her kids thought it was great. She even cried too when she heard it. So far everyone loves it. What can I say I'm a proud mom. Love you
Betty Anne C.
Mail the song to every radio station you can think of. Get it to every political radio talk show you can think of. Anniversary will be soon, and they'll be looking for things. Send it to the Morning Shows, Good Morning America, Today, and the rest. Submit, Submit,
Submit....
